Hello,

I am working my  way through the book DotNetNuke 4.0 Web Site Creation in VB 2005 with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express written by Nick Symmonds.

The book is well written so far and the projects have been easy to follow.  However, I am stuck now that I am in Chapter 7, Creating a DNN Module.

I am on page 195 of Chapter 7.  The author is asking me to cut all the contents of the file called TimePunch.SqlDataProvider into the DNN SQL tool and run it as a script.  The concept of this I understand.

The problem I am having is no matter how many times I have inserted a new DNN Module into the Website using the author's instructions there is never a file created call TimePunch.SqlDataProvider.  (TimePunch is the name of the demo application throughout the book.)

If anyone may have an idea what I am doing incorrectly I sure would appreciate it if you could explain a fix for me.

I haven't seen the book, but does he give you a download from somewhere to install? Or is the book walking you through creating the files by hand?

The author walks you through creating a module manually.  I won't copy the book word for word, but the basic steps are:

  • right click on the root node and click add new item.
  • select dotnetnuke module / rename / make sure language is vb.
  • rename two nodes.  modulename under app_code and modulename under desktopmodules.
  • log into the website as host.
  • select sql from the host menu.
  • Quote"In the Solution Explorer, choose DesktopModules > TimePunch, and double-click the TimePunch.SQLDataProvider file.  This will open it in the IDE."  (I can not locate this file.)
  • copy all the contents of TimePunch.SQLDataProvider into the SQL window and run as a script.
  • copy all the contents of 01.00.00.SqlDataProvider file into the SQL window and run as a script.

The author then moves on to viewing the results of these scripts...

There has to be a step where you either download this file from the publishers website or you create it from code listed somewhere.
