I do understand that some people have experienced time-outs when trying to load a lot of users using the API. If it is not a one-time import I would reccomend that their program load a user then sleep until the program can pull them up and then load the next user. This may take 4+ times longer, but will that be so bad?

One more thing.... it's not bad if it's 4x slower if you use it for a 10-20-50 (or other smaller number). But if you look at a bigger picture and you see that bigger picture can include a bigger load (bad examples: page templates, file sync., search index) you will soon see that 4x (and 4x is often much bigger then 4x) is a problem... and becomes a real problem when you give it to real users with real needs.

To conclude (before I go into other examples.... there are quite a bit (don't get me started on the File Sync which I was fixing a year and a half ago))... I don't have anything against using dnn API, but to push it to users and to say and use it for every purpose is just plain wrong.

Have I said something to offend you? It appears that you make it a point to contradict my advice in numerous posts. This is of course your right. I would hope that we can avoid this to simply make this forum helpful to others.

I hope you don't feel I was contradicting you when I advised that they use the API. This is just a simple fact that we constantly try to remind people of. I simply want people to be aware of the dangers of not using the API.

No you haven't... Sometimes my posts come off like that, but I don't mean them to be. I like the forums generally as a means of different people expressing their opinions... sometimes these opinions are quite different and spark a vivid discussion...

I don't feel your contradicting me, but if you say somethimg and I do have an opinion which is different than yours I usually try to express it so that people can see it for themselves and decide accordingly. I expect of course that you will do the same (you or anybody else) and if you see something on which you don't agree with me or think it's just plain wrong that you will say it in the forums... I even hope we will have a vivid discussion on it

Cheers!

Ou and I didn't mention it... but I do understand the possible pitfalls of not using the API and completly agree that not using it involves to some degree a risk.
