I have a potential requirement to draw flowcharts and site diagrams within a site - has anybody done anything like this?  I looked for ASP.NET drawing component but havent found anything that is for use on the web - I have control of the system so I could use active x or even (shudder) java -

Heres what I need to do if possible:

In a module my user will enter some text and then geneerate flowchart parts from that list

they should be able to change the order of the flow chart items and draw lines between them - the final image nees to be saved in some format where the user can go back and later edit the image if needed

If anybody has some ideas - examples - components anything that would help me do this please send them along

TIA

Have you looked at Dundas Chart for ASP.NET? (http://www.dundas.com).  Although it would be a bit too pricey for my usual clients, I know from having written many graphics routines using GDI+, etc. how much work is involved in this type of work.

If you are interested in writing your own, start by doing a Google search for "ASP.NET dynamic image handler".  The basic techniques for streaming image data from a handler into an < IMG /> tag are not that difficult and are the key to the whole process. Let me know if you have further questions.  I'll also try to get to uploading the image handler/image upload control that I've been using to the free web controls section of my site in the next few days. It was written for DNN 3.x but should work for 4.x.  I've been meaning to rewrite the image upload control to take advantage of AJAX - mayby your query will give me the incentive to get back to this project.

Bill,

I have looked at Dundas and the problem is its really for graphs and stuff and I am really wanting more of a VISIO type of experience for my users (only not as complicated) I found a Javascript library http://www.openjacob.org/draw2d.html and a site that uses some JS to both draw and save but I cant get hold of their source (they say they are going to provide an API) http://litha-paint.com/ but was looking for something kind of in the plug and play type of complexity due to the time I may need
