I have been scratching my head on this for a few days, the setup i have is simple and supposedly basic. Have a DNN 4.4source install on our development server and a DNN 4.4 install version on our production server. Now if i compile my DNN Source project with the sln file provided all the library and vb code is build fine but the website publishing produces piles of DLL. I know this is typical behaviour of VS2005 but how do i make it work for me?

I am not trying to make or enhance a module so articles at http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNuke/tabid/195/Default.aspx are not that helpful. For eg. i just need to add text 'welcome' to the logged in user name after they log in. Now to do that one way is to change the code behind on /admin/skins/user.vb. If i build the page and run the web site (ctrl+F5) it runs fine .. showing the welcome msg and all. Now i publish the site and want to move the dll over to the production server what do i do then?? I tried moving the .ascx file and the App_Web_***.dll over to the live DNN install and everything broke

I have come across Web Application projects which work similar to VS2003 projects but how does DNN fit into it. I have even tried the starter kit too works fine when i build it and then again on publish everything breaks!

Am i being stupid or too smart
