Hi all, I am doing my first DNN-based website.

I've set up a DNN solution in VS2005 and I've been able to create modules under the DesktopModules directory and get it to run. The only problem is that every time I try to debug the module, it takes 2-3 minutes to recompile the whole solution again. This is unbearable and terribly unproductive. I want to be able to develop the DNN modules outside of the DNN VS2005 solution I have right now. This way I will only have compile the module code and not the DNN sourcecode itself.

Does anyone have any guidelines as to how this could be achieved?

Thank you JZ

see:

Using Web Application Projects (WAP)

and

For Fast Debugging...

  • You do not have to compile each time, simply save the page and refresh your web browser.

  • If you need to compile to check for errors, select "build page" to just build the page you are working one (files in the app_code directory do require a full build)

  • To debug use Attach To Process (requires the full version of Visual Studio 2005)
    • You may see more than one "aspnet_wp.exe". Hover your mouse over each one and they will identify the asp.net version (after a second or so). Select the one that is "\v2.0..." and click "Attach"
    • On Windows Server 2003 / IIS 6.0, the ASP.NET work process is named "w3wp.exe"

I simply make sure to uncheck the mark next to those projects that I don't want to compile. it's under Solution > Properties > Configuration
