Following Michael Washingtons instructions for setting up VS2005Express to develop modules does not seem to work with DNN 4.5.5. He says to use the install version of DNN but  I don't see a desktop modules folder when I think the process is finished. I have refreshed the root website folder but it does not appear. I'm guessing that 4.5.5 has moved them to a different location. DNN 4.5.5 also now has the under construction msg so when is the install completed?

Has anyone modifed the Washington instructions to follow the 4.5.5 version of DNN?

Thanks,

It works. I used DNN 4.5.5 to develop the Single Sign On code that I wrote last week :) Does your DNN site run after you set it up? Can you try setting it up again?

Thanks for the response.

I went through the steps again after removing the folders and virtual web in IIS.

Create a directory on your hard drive. OK (INETPUB/DnnModDev)
Unzip the files to the directory OK
In IIS configuration, create a new Virtual Directory OK
Point to the root of the directory OK
On this screen check the boxes next to "Read", "Run scripts (such as ASP)", and "Execute". Then click Next OK
In IIS, go into properties for the site you just created and click on the ASP.NET tab and insure that you set the site to run under ASP.NET 2.0. OK
Go to the site in your web browser OK
The installation wizard will appear and guide you through the installation The site comes up but displays the 'Under Construction" page

I'm using the latest DNN Install 4.5.5 code & Express SQL and Visual Web Developer with all the default install settings.

  • Did you first ensure that a normal asp.net 2.0 web application will run on your server
  • Do you have SQL server Express installed?

My system has Framework 2.0 & 3.0 installed. I have VS2005 Standard  & SQL Svr 2005 Developer installed. I installed the Visual Web Express even though the full Visual web was installed through VS standard. I also installed the SQL 2005 Express. Because of the current problem, I deleted SQL Developer & SQL express and then rebooted and reinstalled just the SQL Express.

Question - must I only have the Express packages installed? Can they co-exist with the full packages?

Also, when installing the Express packages, do I leave everything to the default settings?
