I have a 4.3.5 site installed (from the source version) and operational.  I would like to create a new module.  One approach is to use File -> Open Website and then create a folder under DesktopModules.  Then use Add New Item -> WebUserControl to add controls.  Not sure what to do after that...  I want to add a text input field to input a search value and then display the results of a SQL query in a grid.

Is this a reasonable approach?

Can I move to the Design view for the ascx page and drag and drop controls onto the page and have it work with DNN?
