I just tried to create a module using the tutorial here:

http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_ShowMeThePages/Super_Simple2.htm

except mine was even more simple with just a label that said hello world. When I tried to add the module to a page, I got the following error in the ContentPane:

Error: hello is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.desktopmodules_helloworld2_helloworldcontrol_ascx' to type 'DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase'. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.desktopmodules_helloworld2_helloworldcontrol_ascx' to type 'DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase'. at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectModule(Control objPane, ModuleInfo objModule, PortalSettings PortalSettings) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

please help, thanks

Nick

We would have to see your code in order to help you.
See this Link and follow instructions.  You will get a Working "Hello World" module delivered in a .zip file to you.
Then you can compare these lines of code in each of the files with each line of yours.

I think you forgot either:

(VB) Inherits Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase

or

(C#) partial class DesktopModules_SuperSimple_SuperSimple : DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase

YOu can download the working module:
VB.NET Version
C# Version

Thank you! When I inherited from DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.PortalModuleBase it worked. I'm slowly starting to understand.
