I am trying to convert an older application of mine to a DotNetNuke module and just had a quick question for the programming guru's out there.   I have a DNN user control that inherits from PortalModuleBase.  Inside that control, I am loading up another user control that inherits from System.Web.UI.UserControl.   I want for this nested control to be able to automatically go out and get the information about the module.   I know that some other people have managed to do that and was wondering which route that they took to accomplish this.

Use the DNN supplied functions, I am not returning all of the information about the module.

So if anyone has any suggestions, please post them here... :)

Hi,

I just came across the same requirement as you. What I did is basically just inherit the child user control from PortalModuleBase, because inside the child control I only need the UserID. But if I'm trying to extract module-specific information, such way won't work because it isn't properly initialized by DNN.

So what you can do is leave the child control to inherit from UserControl. When you want to access the module-specific information, you can just access it from the child control by using: (this.Parent as PortalModuleBase).ModuleId  , assuming that parent module directly loads the child control, without inserting it into Panel or other Container control. If that's the case, you have yo find the correct reference of parent module (this.Parent.Parent etc).

That's my 2cents. Anyone got better ways to do this?
