Hi ,I am using DotNetNuke 4.8. I want to redesign the registartion module.I visited lots of results regarding my requirement, but all were in vain.I am new to this CMS.I want to redesign "Preferred User Information" (want to add some fields(city, zip etc) and remove some fields(display name etc)),Is there any way by setting some properties in manage profile properties ( admin tab)?Or we want to edit the code(*.ascx files in admin/users folder)?Which is the most flexible way?Can i add more fields to the table users? Thanks in advance.

  • Dnn has some required fields you cannot delete: UserName, DisplayName, FirstName, LastName and EMail
  • DisplayName is a special field, used by a lot of modules. You can however autocalculate this field, to do that go to Admin > User Accounts > User Settings and change the displayName format in for instance [FIRSTNAME] [LASTNAME]
  • you can add / remove / hide / show properties by using the profile properties editor: go to Admin > User Accounts > Manage Profile Properties
  • It is not advisable to modify any code of the application (including ascx files), as you will loose these changes when you upgrade the application

Hi Erik,Thanks for the quick reply.I have set Admin > User Accounts > Manage Profile Properties, but i couldnt display the additional fileds in the Preferred User Information. The registration shows username.lastname, firstname, displayname, email, password fields). After registration we can only manage the profile. My requiremnet is to show some additional fileds such as city, zip etc  in the Preferred User Information(the first page displays when clicking on the register link). Is there any way to do that?

Altering preferred user information requires modification of the core - which should be avoided. But you can enforce the profile to be completed during registration using the appropriate option in "User Settings" within the "User Accounts" module.
