Hi Guys,

I am developing a custom module for DNN 4.7.0 and in it I am using a file upload control. Everythin works fine on my own development machine but when I try and access the control in my module on the production server I get a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error. I have several other controls on the module that work perfectly.

Does anyone know why this could be happening ?

Perhaps I havent added all the correct elements of my module to the production server. I have copied all the folders and files from App_Code and DesktopModule to the production server. Are there any web.config settings that I need to change.

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

When you configured your module did you make any changes?  Also did you do anything to create a .dll file for your module?

Did you install any database items that were needed?  Also, can you provide any more detail or the stack trace for the error (You can get it from Event Viewer).

Hi Mitch,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have fixed that issue by coping the urlcontrol form DNN core. However I have come across another issue.

I consistently get  an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. I am trying to set the NavigateURL of a hyperlink in control. However I keep getting this error.

Is there any main reason why this might be happening. It seems to happen constantly, but only on my test server so far. It is fine on my dev machine.

Thanks

Dave

The object reference error is something that can be hard to identify, but typically it is due to a missing control declaration, or potentially a missing dll.  Since it works on you dev machine I would rule out an actual code error.
