I found this post on the old forum.
Thought it is very usefull for some stuff:

Why not just have DNN return a dataset to you rather than an arraylist?  It is a simple alteration in the code.

SQLDataProvider.vb
...
Public Overrides Function GetList(ByVal param As String) As DataSet
    Return SqlHelper.ExecuteDataset(ConnectionString, DatabaseOwner & ObjectQualifier & "spGetList", GetNull(param))
End Function
...

DataProvider.vb
...
Public MustOverride Function GetList(ByVal paramAs String) As DataSet
...

GetListController.vb
...
Public Function List(ByVal param As String) As DataSet
    Return DataProvider.Instance().GetList(param)
End Function
...

Then just call the List function of the controller...a dataset is returned and you can do what you will with it and the datagrid!

Another DataSet vs ArrayList thing all over again  But I suppose most people would enjoy more working with ArrayList of strongly-typed object, especially with DNN's CBO. I used DataSet too though, to return transposed result set, which couldn't been done with strongly-typed object.

I am not quite sure i understand this post. DNN does not force you to use anything....

I think this post refer to the Add New File for the DNN, and user select DotNetNuke Dynamic Module.  The default view module is not return the dataset.
