I would like to add items to the breadcrumb as a user drills down in a heirarchical product listing. As the user clicks on a category, I want to put the category name in the breadcrumb.

I saw the ActiveTab.Breadcrumbs property, but when I add a TabInfo item to the collection, it is not there when the breadcrumb user control loads.

Any ideas?

Hi Gordon,

I ran into this issue as well when using the store module.  I actually used a quick solution and a long term solution.

The quick solution was to create a bunch of pages that made the breadcrumbs control work.  So I would have pages like

Apparel

  > Shirts

     > Navy T Crew Neck - Product Information

We then had the ability to redirect to a different tab based on link click which allowed us to quickly solve this problem but the drawback was the number of tabs we had within the system and repeating modules (so if we changed a setting, we sometimes had to modify it in several areas)

Our long term solution was to create our own breadcrumbs control SkinObject which was used on a selective number of skins.  Based on the tab id, product id, category id, we would then generate a breadcrumb path to our liking.  Took a little while to develop and get right, but ended up working great.

I was afraid you'd say that!

I think that is what I am going to have to do. If anyone else has an answer please post.

Chris,

Thanks for your help. I think I know the answer, but is there any chance I can get the source for that breadcrumb control??

Thanks!

Ahh the magical question.  Unfornatly I left that code at my last employeer and never kept a copy with me (in perspective a bad idea...)  I am terribly sorry I do not have it available.  But I'll give you a hand in writing it if you need it.  Maybe a small little CodePlex project or something?

Thoughts?
