If you want to plug-in to that method call, you will need to customize the DNN Membership provider.  At least, that is the easiest way.  Download the source and update the UpdateUserProfile method in the provider to notify you (by e-mail, write to the event log, append to a custom table in the database, etc.).  Then, re-build the solution and use the new version of the provider.

However, it would be best to rename the provider and its DLL so that subsequent DNN upgrades do not wipe out your changes.

That would work but for me I would rather make a module that allowed a user to update their profile. In my module I could then send the needed email notifications. The added benefit is that I can now customize the screen and the entire process.

Great point.  So, there are a couple options.  Choose the one that best fits your needs and resources.

I should have explained myself better. The creation and testing of a custom membership provider is not for the faint hearted. Whenever I see anyone go toward any of the custom providers I gently try to steer them back toward module development.

A developer usually thinks "Hey they have the provider model so I should be able to make a provider and plug it in!". The developer is correct but the "less painful thing" is to make a module. 99% of the time you can make a module to accomplish the task. I worked on providers with the DALII project and the Firebird project and I have nothing good to say about the experience (grin).

Now module development, this is easy, straight forward, upgrades nicely when the DotNetNuke site is upgraded...
