Hi guys,

i'm building a DNN 4.8 site and the requirements are somewhat special, at the moment i got two questions i haven't been able to find an answer to on these forums:

1. We will need to register users of two types, e.g. Client & Customer. Permissions will naturally be managed by assigning users to specific roles. However, depending on user type, we need additional information about each user. As far as i can see, Profile Properties are the same for all users.. Is there anyway to display/collect information depending on user type/role membership or do i need to develop my own user registration/management module?

2. During the Client registration we will need to execute additional logic. E.g. say that we have a property "Social Security Number", on entering this we need to make sure it is valid, not only through client-side validation but also through a more complex server-side validation. If it does not validate the registration cannot continue, if it validates the user registration can succeed and the additional information is stored. Is this possible with the existing modules or do i need to develop my own?

Have you had any responses to this? We have very similar requirements (although we're not quite at that stage of the project yet)

Appart from some rudimentary abilities that allow for user defined fields - the default registration module in DNN is really not designed for modifications.

You have a couple of options to do what you need however,

the first - have a look at some of the 3rd party user rego modules already on the market.

the second - code your own - and in reality this is usually the most reliable way of going.

As mentioned above you might first look at some of the third party modules out there, I would personally recommend looking at Dynamic Registration by DataSprings, otherwise, you will need to write your own custom module, or have someone write a custom  module for you.

If you decide to go the custom route and are considering outsourcing the development, drop me an e-mail as I'd be interested in working with you on this.  mitchel.sellers(at)gmail.com
