Hi,
     I need to add three new fields in banner table.
     Next modify addbanner, updatebanners and getbanners sp for accessing/adding new fields.
     Now in Dnn i will need to modify BannerInfo.vb and BannerController.vb. and also dataprover.vb and sqldataprvovider.vb.
     In source packeage under website this files are not present but can be found under library folder.
     Can somehelp me how to make changes to above mentioned files using vs2005 ??
 
     Note:
     I tried to make new table with bannerid and other three fields and thought to update only this three fields using DAL+ but addbanner function doesnt return newly added banners "bannerid " needed. So thought of modifying core files.

Hi Rohit,

The core changes you are describing will involve loading the fully DotNetNuke library solution (located, as you noticed, in the Library subdirectory) and recompiling the FULL DNN core.  This assembly (dotnetnuke.dll) will need to be deployed to your website's bin directory.

However, core modifications should really be a last resort.  You will have to forward-propagate any core changes to future versions, and the code in the two files you propose to touch (BannerInfo.vb and BannerController.vb) are not guaranteed to maintain the same internal implementation. 

You do not indicate the intent of your changes, so it is difficult to make any recommendations, but you should at least consider subclassing the BannerInfo/BannerController classes in an external assembly and consuming these derivations in your ascx codebehinds.  You may be able to circumvent core changes in this manner.

Proceed with caution!
