I am precompiling my DotNetNuke 4.0.2 solution in Visual Studio 2005 with the options turned on to allow web site to be updatable, and use fixed naming/single page assemblies. After I install the portal everything appears functional except my modules were not installed. If I try to install a module I get the following error:

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(IFormatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at System.String.Format(String format, Object arg0) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.ReadZipStream() in Library\Components\ResourceInstaller\PaInstaller.vb:line 110 at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install() in Library\Components\ResourceInstaller\PaInstaller.vb:line 69

The value that was null is a localized string - FILE_ReadSuccess. I checked my EventLog and it has given me this error:

Core Localization File Not Found: ~/App_GlobalResources/SharedResources.resx

I am unable to put the App_GlobalResources folder in the web because it is precompiled. What can I do to fix this? Thanks for your help!

Don't precompile (What a solution, huh?)

Surely there is a way to successfully precompile DotNetNuke. We are publishing this to a client's server and prefer they don't have access to the code. Has anyone had luck with this?

I tried to get this to work, but was quite unsuccessful. It drove me crazy for a week or so until I finally just said, "#&@$ it!" I was very aggravated with it.

The problem is that .NET wants RESX files to be compiled, but DNN looks for the physical files, so they can't be. One thing I never did get to try was to set the RESX files to be of type Content in VS05, instead of embedded, but I'm not sure if this will work or is even an option. I simply deployed the app to get it to work and finished the project. I haven't worked in 2.0 since then, so I'm not sure what options you have off the top of my head.

The only other thing I can think of would be that there might be a config setting to say that resources don't have to be compiled. I never really looked for that explicitly, but to the best of my knowledge, there isn't anything to do that. If you find anything more out, I would be very interested, tho.

FYI: This has already been submitted to Gemini, but no action has been taken, that I'm aware of.

Thanks for looking into this.  I am having the same issue with DNN 4.0.2.  I prefer to deploy it with Pre-compilation as soon as it is possible.
