This might be a really really dumb question but I'll ask it anyway

We're going to be developing a tool for use on one of our DNN websites that we'd like to make freely available for others to use on theirs ... whether they use DNN or not.  We want it to be as portable as possible.

Probably making it a DNN module wouldn't be the best way to accomplish this or could it be done as a DNN module?  Any ideas or how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated ...

Maybe making it a DNN module and then allowing other websites to implement it inside of an iframe?

Really depends on what type of functionality the tool needs, and what level of skill you want to require other site-developers to have for integration.

If iFrame...who would host the DNN site the iFrame points too?  Point  it to one of your DNN servers, or the client using it would have to have a DNN site as well?

A module could be coded to be very-easily portable as an ASCX or ASPX in a non-DNN ASP.Net site.

Thanks for the feedback Scott.  It looks like this project has been shelved for now but these are good questions to ponder for when it surfaces again ...

Instead of porting dnn module to non dnn site (I think it would defeat the purpose of using dnn), you can try setting up the dnn so it only display the module then use it some how in your other site.

i.e.

iframe

rss feed

sometype of dataaccsing

Would a .net service do a better job?
