Hi,

my custom module is only working when i'm logged in as administrator or host.

 for the purposes of narrowing down the possibilities, ive created a simple module using the first half of this tutorial (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/custom-controls/Creating_A_DNNModule.aspx) , and then stuck a button on the form and a label, with the simple command on the button click event as follows:

label1.text = "hello world"

works fine when i'm logged in as admin. or host. but not as a regular user. if i'm a regular user, or an anonymous user (ordinary visitor) the button, when clicked, just returns to server and returns quickly back to the browser with no change to page, just does a postback.

please can someone tell me why, and how to get it working

The most common cause of this is the module is implementing a cache.  If you open the module settings for the instance of your module check to make sure the cache is set to "0".  A lot of the module starter kits defaulted the cache to 1200 instead of 0 at one point in time which causes postbacks to seem like they aren't working.

Additionally check your module definition (host-->modules; as well as the .dnn file before redistributing the module for "real" modules) and then check to make sure the definition defaults to 0 instead of some other number on the cache.

A host or admin, for some reason, bypasses the cache (probably by design in the framework?).

excellent yes that worked. i read somewhere else last night that that was the solution but the way i read it (and at 3.30am) it didnt make sense and i went into the wrong place to find the cache attribute. you explained it better too. hopefully google will crawl this and find your explanation better than the one i found previously

thanks, if you're in aiya napa next month i'll buy you a drink... if you're not then hey ho
