Hi, I will be developing for DNN 4.02 using VS2005 and MSSQLXpress and I was wondering if anyone has bought this book and could tell me if it is useful in this environment. I am guessing that it focussing on VS2003 and DNN3 due to its publishing date so I wanted to know if it would still be helpful or if I should wait for the new book to come out in May. If an author could respond as well, that would be just great. Thanks guys.

I cannot comments on how the content is being updated, but do know that there is an updated version being worked on. IMHO If you can wait until the the updated release I would. Why buy a book that will be outdated in less than 2 months.  That would be like buying Windows XP 2 months before Vista is released. That is my 2 cents.

Not an author, but I do recommmend the older book if you have an immediate need to get started.

I say this because even if you use the dynamic compiled (non-PA) method new to 4.x and ASP.NET 2.0, you will still find many relevant pieces of information on the inner workings of DNN and it modules that are not tied to the above method.  At least this has been my experience and I am following a similar learning path myself.

In fact, I was wondering wether to buy the new book or not as I was not certain how much extending DNN via the dynamic method might be included.

Have you checked out Michael Washington's tutuorials yet?  They are a good start, but you will still have much to gain from Todd Davies' DNN 3 tutorials as well again on the inner workings of DNN.

hope this helps

-eric
