Can someone point me in the right direction for how DNN determines what the portal ID is from the URL? So I make a request for www.foo.com/tabid/xxx/default.aspx where xxx is the tabid. How does the framework determine what PortalID www.foo.com is? I've looked at the Portal Controller and all that appears to use is the Portal ID - so how does it GET the portal ID?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Rick,

The UriRewrite HttpModule is used to convert incoming URIs of the form you outlined.  This is determined by PortalAlias match and (for child portals and most host functions) via rewritten querystring.

Take a look at /Library/HttpModules/UrlRewrite/UrlRewrite.vb for more details.  The assignments I mentioned above occur at line 183 and 378 respectively.

Hope this helps!

Brandon

this done in DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest. There are all kinds of checks to find out what the portal id is. The code is executed as part of the URLRewriter Handler, and is done during every page load...

If you look up the SQL server database and see the table called "tabs", you can see a portal id is assigned to every tabID
