I recently had the same dilamemma. I used to use Public Registration on PokerDIY and I had a Welcome screen that had a Tell a Friend, Google Conversion Script, Bookmarking script and general help text to orientate the user. 2 days ago I decided to switch to verfied as I was getting too many fake emails.

I noticed that it is now not possible to use the Redirect after Registration feature with this setting and had to come up with some ideas - for example - I changed the language string of the "An email has been sent to your email for verification" to include the Google Conversion script so at least I can see how my Google Adwords are affecting signups. It's a pity as I have to keep it on Verified but really would like a Welcome screen...
