I have downloaded DNN 4.0.2 source project and set it up to run in my PC. The bad thing I always encounter is- it always says I dont have the debug information, no matter how I compile. I notice the reference in the bin does not contain any .pdb files. How can I setup the project in a way I can step thru coding properly? I dont want to delete all dlls one by one and then add the project reference again- its just a pain in the butt.

Please check your web.config and ensure that you have <compilation debug="true" />

Which one?  My web.config file has several <compilation> tags, and I've got debug="true" set in all of them.

I get this message on debug breakpoints:

"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."

I don't know how to make it load symbols at all.  It's always worked on my own projects, but not not DNN.

I use development.config as my template- I checked the flag is correct. However it simply wont build the bin files since they are added from other projects, and the default setting does not even compile other projects. Also there is no longer a link to those projects, so even if I have setup all projects to compile the pdb would not add back into the web project.

Does anyone tried to do so before?

I had this problem with \website\admin\Portal\sitesettings.ascx - I couldn't set breakpoints in sitesettings.ascx.vb.

The "Control" directive at the top of the ASCX file explicitly set "debug=false". That was annoying. I don't know why it's explicitly in these files if you can set it in web.config. Am I missing something?
