Hi all,

I've got a link on one module's view page that redirects to the edit page (<a href = '" & EditUrl() & "?ItemID=" & e.Row.Cells(1).Text.ToString & "'>") and it works fine on all my other modules, but on one in particular, it redirects me to the login page.  If I login, then it will redirect to the edit page.  I've got it set up so anyone can view, and I even tried stating it explicitly, but that didn't help.

Can anyone think of why it would prompt for a login going from one page to another in a module?  I'm stumped (though not hard for me).

Thanks,

Kevin

So everybody can View but what about Edit rights?  In the module settings, do you have it set that Registered Users or something like that can edit it; how about unregistered users?  If not and if the module control is of type "Edit" instead of "View" that could be why it requires a login.

Well, on all my modules, I just "inherit view permissions from page" and on my page permissions, I have:

Administrators:    View   Edit

All Users:            View

This works with accessing the edit page on all my other modules, but this one.  I even tried allowing "Edit" for all users and it still promped me for a login.  The strange this is that I just tried it and now it works!  What the sam hill is going on.....

Well, I guess I'll just have to run with this and see if it happens again.

Sorry, it's not working.  I was just and idiot and forgot to click the link to go to the edit page.  I did try something.  I logged in as a "normal" (non-admin) user and when I click the link to go to the edit page, it gives me an error "You do not have access to view this module within the portal."  How can anyone view the "view" page, but not the edit page?  This is some messed up security issue, I'm thinking.  I guess I'll just create the module from scratch and see what happens.

Ok, I got it now.  A friend of mine was the one that introduced me to DNN and he set up a module for me to start with as a template.  I've been using that to copy and create all my other templates.  He set up the edit page for viewing the details of items (so anyone could see it, but only admins could actually "edit") and in order for everyone to see it, you have to change the "Type" of the control to "Anonymous".  That's why the ones he created, but mine didn't!  Buh....

Wow, that was a lot of time wasted just for that.  Anyhow, if someone runs into the same problem, hopefully they'll find this post first.  I wish I did....  :-(
