I'm sure this is a stupid question, but all the tutorials I'm finding are going through creating stored procedures and editing dnn tables and stuff that just seems way over the top for what I want to do.

Is there some way that I can just create a module as though I am creating a .Net WebUserControl?

I really just want to put a datagrid on a page and write the c# code to populate it and handles its events.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction I would  be super super grateful... I've wasted a few days already trying to get this thing running... I just want to write some code! :)

Take a look at Michael Washington's adefwebserver.com.  If you don't need to access external data, you can create bare bones modules quite easily.

If you don't want to get into learning to create DNN modules you might want to give this module from Xepient Solutions a look.  It will allow you to use your existing asp.net user controls without rewriting them for DNN.  I haven't tried it yet but plan on doing so shortly.

As others have mentioned the Engage Software C# templates, or the ones from BiteTheBullet.co.uk, or the ones that I have available at www.iowacomputergurus.com are all great starting points.

DNN modules are built as Web User Controls (.ascx files), so you should be able to get going quickly.

For actual assistance/guidance on installation, packaging and the like I recommend Michael Washingtons site (http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com), or my book "Professional DotNetNuke Module Programming"
