Hi All,

I have developed a DNN module (say v 01.00.00) which is in production. I have done an improvement to this module (v 01.01.00) recently. Improvement included some structural changes (new column) to a table which is used by this module. I have done a '01.01.00.SqlDataProvider' file which has realted changes and included it in .dnn file as well.

When I installed the new module package (zip file) using host>module definitions, all my changes are applied but not the structural change to table. i.e the sqldataprovider files does not get executed.

Can someone tell me a reason for this please?

Uchitha.

Assuming that you have named the '01.01.00.SqlDataProvider' as indicated, added it to the .zip package, and properly included a reference to it in your .dnn manifest file, it would appear that you have performed those steps correctly. I would check the following:

  1. Have you changed the version node of the .dnn file to '01.01.00'?
  2. When installing the module upgrade, did you note in the status text if the new SqlDataProvider script was processed or if any error messages were generated?
  3. Have you checked the Event Viewer for any errors related to the upgrade?
  4. Was the SqlDataProvider file saved with UTF-8 encoding - not ANSI?
  5. Were the {databaseOwner} and {objectQualifier} tags properly used in the SqlDataProvider script?
  6. If you were testing "IF EXISTS . . ." in your script before running a section of your update script, are you sure that those conditions are being satisfied?

If the above questions, don't help you solve the problem, please indicate to what DNN version are you using to test the upgrade process. If it is DNN 5.x, are you using a legacy version 3 or the new version 5 .dnn manifest?

Thank u for the useful checklist. For all questions u asked my answers are positive. Yet there was a problem. During my development struggle I have run an unseccsssful 01.01.00 installation. According to this article, DNN does not re-run a .sql file (version  x.y.z) if the modules version (In DesktopModules table) is the same (version x.y.z). My corrupted installation has put 01.01.00 as the version number of module, thus subsequent installations of the module did not trigger 01.01.00 sql file execution. I found this by first uninstalling and installting the same module.

Anyway trick is to get u'r module package correct the first time.

PS : I'm using DNN 4.8 and legacy version 3 modules.
