any idea how to load 2 user controls of the same module in a page?

ie. Leftpane = ModA.ctrl_Menu, Contentpane = Mod.ctrl_Detail

afaik the only way you can do that is manually: just drop the same module 2 times on the page.

sorry, misread your question. Your module should consist of 2 module definitions which will both be inserted in the page when you add the module to a page. For an example you can look at the Core Blog module to see how it is done there (look at the dnn file, it contains multiple module definitions)

I did the same way as you proposed, but the 2 modules will load the default control. To overcome this, I created a dummy control that determines the correct control to load based on the moduleid. However when loading only one control is displayed on screen, occupying the full page.

Thanks! Got it working by creating multiple module definitions within a module.
