I got it to work.  I just used result.string, and out popped my result.  Did you ever figure out how to pass in or return anything other than a string?

I just use JSON as my return. I'm pretty sure you can return anything you can set the Response.ContentType to. I can work in strings, so that's all I'm concerned about.

Same thing for passing in strings - It's the best way I can see to dynamically do the parameters without overly complicating things.

I wouldn't mind seeing other things to pass in, but I've found JSON fine and dandy for me. :)

Instead of reinventing the wheel, you should look into the built in ajax methods included in DNN. Specifically the ControlMethods which Jon Henning added into the ClientAPI for the 5.x codebase. The CodeEndeavor Templates are an excellent resource for learning about the new AJAX callbacks, it's much easier than rolling a web service with your extension, it's also the same API I'm utilizing in my free Advanced Control Panel for DotNetNuke provider.

Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions.  If I utilize this CodeEndeavor template, is this going to steer me back toward using asp.net ajax?  The whole reason I started using jQuery was because asp.net ajax is really slow.  And if someone runs multiple instances of my module on a given dnn page, things really slow down.
