Hi!   I bought a module that still doesn't support DNN 5.x.  I have the source and would like to attempt to do the code upgrade myself.   Could someone help me find documentation (website, book, etc) that would explain the most common coding issues that need to be addressed to run the module on DNN 5.x?   I am willing to pay for books etc, if it addresses this specific issue.

the core developers tried to avoid any breaking changes, i.e. any DNN 4 module should run without problems, except it is using a deprecated API. What is the error you encounter? are you able to compile the module in a DNN5 installation?

So far, I've found out that stored procedure AddListEntry now has a new parameter,@CreatedByUserID.  I'd prefer not to find those sorts of changes one at a time.   I got that fixed, then tried to use my backup software that was supposed to be 5.x compatible but it kept getting a connection error.  I was running on Windows 2008 standard edition 64 bit.  I'm now going to try to run this on DNN 5.x and Windows 2003 and see if that's more successful.  Then, if that works, move up to Windows 2008.

I suspect that something is different because the vendor indicates that they're "trying" to make the module 5.x compatible but "can't".   They also provided supposed 5.x modules which have microsoft.web.atlas.dll and a new version of radcontrols.  All of this leads me to believe that something will go wrong if I simply install DNN 4x version modules on 5.x.   I'm going to try to install and see if I can fix each problem one at a time, but I was really hoping that someone else had done this before and might have a few hints.

I am not aware, the signature of a core API did change (calling dataprovider methods is not a supported API).

I am not aware of differences running on Win 2008 or 2008 in 32 or 64 bit, there must be a different problem. Please post the error message.

I think I finally figured it out.  Javascript was being blocked by default because I was trying to access the website from the server, instead of using a client workstation.   I finally turned off the enhanced security for administrators and things are doing better now.
