 Hi All,

I am struggling to decrypt DNN password from an outside application. The problem I am facing is that I am not able to find encryptionkey for it. The field is there in HostSettings table but it is empty and its secure status is True.

Any ideas how can I get encryption key value?

Thanks,

Mubashir

 encryption is performed by MS membership component using password salt and machine key from web.config.

 Thanks for the reply!!

Can you please explain it a little. Following is the code that I am using.

Dim password As String = "MyEncryptedPassword"

        'get the machine's encryption key

Dim key As String = "SomeKeyICannotFind"

        'decrypt the password with the machines encryption key

        Dim portalSecurity As DotNetNuke.Security.PortalSecurity = New DotNetNuke.Security.PortalSecurity()

        password = portalSecurity.Decrypt(key, password)

using above code the password always comes blank. I have tried machine validation key as well as decryptionkey from web.config.

Please advice.

Appreciatively,

Mubashir
