Hi.

Trying to learn how to develop modules, and the documentation I guess is about dnn 3.x and talks about opening the projects in the solutions folder.  I have dnn 4.x and there is no solutions folder....

What am I missing here can someone please fill me in? :) thanks.

hey ski

i am also new to dnn 4 but what i understood is after opening your DNN 4 website. you can click on "New Item" on the main project title and then you can select Dotnetnukemodule from there. it will create the skeleton for you. But now What i know next is that you will get 2 dataprovider files one would be your "project.sqldataprovider" other would be "0.0.01.sqlprovider" something like that. now you need to run both of them in dnn after logging in as host, One will register your module in DNN and other Would create table for you. Now after that even m confused that what to do. because if i run these script both works perfect, but the table it creates has moduleID and DateCreated some fields like that. now what shud i do if i wana have my own table without these fields and also where can i generate code for those for BLL and DataProvider etc. coz in DNN 3x we could always generate code with the help of codesmith templates. keep diggin mate.

The process of creating templates and code is very similar in DNN4 when comparing to DNN3 (you still have tables, procedures, controllers, info objects, data provider, etc...)

pls. read:

http://adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_Module4/

http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx

and of course the module development guide from dotnetnuke documentation. Hopefully it will help clear allot of things for you both.

HTH
