I am having a problem using the UrlControl in an EditItemTemplate of a FormView. (DNN4.3.2 ASP.Net 2). I am trying to use a FormView to display/edit the fields of a database table, where one field in an image file name, and want to use the Url control to select the image file/url.

I include the reference to the control in the ascx file:
     <%@ Register TagPrefix="Portal" TagName="URL" Src="~/controls/URLControl.ascx" %>
and use this code to include the control:
   <portal:url id="ctlURL" runat="server" width="300" showtrack="False" shownewwindow="False" showlog="False" UrlType="F" showUrls="True" showfiles="True" showtabs="False" ></portal:url>

When the EditItemTemplate is displayed, the UrlControl seems to lose its settings and displays all the controls within it, instead of just the file location/file name edit boxes. Also looking in the debugger, it seems that the Url and UrlType properties are reporting NullReference Exceptions.

If I move the control outside the FormView it is OK.
So I don't know what is going on. I'm not quite sure how I was going to use the UrlControl inside the FormView, but I am wondering why it behaves like this.
Any suggestions?

Has anyone found the solution to this.  I am having the exact same problem.

If i use the control by itself it works just fine, but when i add it to any templated control, it ceases to work at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

have a look, how it is integrated into the core links or documents module.

Hi,

Yes, I have looked at both of those, that is easy to do. The problem we are having is the fact that we are trying to use the control in a a formview, or in any templated control.  It is easy to use as a seperate control, but when you try to integrate it into a templated control, it does not retain its settings.

Thanks,
Andrw
