Hi all,

I am a newbie in DNN module development ( I got DNN 4.3.5 up and running with Starter kit, created blank and running module per describe by online instructions like http://adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_Module4/Default.htm )

I like DNN's robustness in user management, multilingual support, skinning...etc...

But, what I am trying to figure out for the past week or two is, if DNN can be the application framework for developing enterprise applications:

But it seems to me (maybe I am wrong) that it is very hard to develop a module that has multiple pages/views/postback etc..

For a real life requirement:
A business function for bug report management that offers a
1)search interface page (Offer user search option like date range, user, severity, and then a search button)
2)table listing of results (listing results from the user selected critiria from search page)
3)bug detail page (when user select a bug from the table page)

It seems to me that to do this in DNN will require lots of extra efforts, may even need to create a module per page listed above......?

Your help much appreciated!!!
Chris

Chris,
It can absolutely do those things.  I don't have anything to do with this company, but a good example of this can be seen at:

http://www.callcenters24x7.com/SupportCenter/Documentation/DotNetNukeGuidedTour/PremiumModules/SigmaProProjectManager/tabid/421/Default.aspx

Whether it is easy or not is really a question of your exposure to DNN.  You will find that after you start creating modules, you see how to add multiple controls (pages if you want to call it that) to the same DNN module.  I wouldn't go so far as to start off by building an app like that right away.  I have started off simpler and worked up to building enterprise level applications.  You may be different and would like the challenge.

I like building applications inside of DNN because all of the membership stuff, menus, and the other things you mentioned a the beginning of your post - which usually take up a good deal of time anyway.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply! I will keep digging in dnn module development then!

Hope it is not too much to ask... does anyone know a sample C# module that demonstrate the technique of doing what I have described above?

Hello,

I am in fact a first time developer with .NET framework, although i've been using VB 6 lately and also other web application servers (Coldfusion).

I got into .NET because of DNN and its functionalities.

I've been ask to develop an enterprise application (CRM) using DNN framework, and i think am doing fine with it, though am using VB.NET.

creating module is easy, can create multiple control on the sam Page(tab).

The intresting part of it is that the whole stuff(CRM) can be redistributted and easily insalled

as for code sample with C#, try codesmith.

Happy programming...

Hi,

I can't seem to find anything on codesmith (http://www.codesmithtools.com/ ??)

I started experimenting using the Multiview control in the module, so the system will switch view according to a user action, and it which seems to do the trick.

I wonder if it is the preferred way or not?

(or is it more preferred to create ViewMyModule1.ascx, ViewMyModule2.ascx on top of the template created ViewMyModule.ascx, so that ViewMyModule.ascx will call ViewMyModule1.ascx when user press submit and so forth..?)

Sorry for asking too many newbie questions.  Your one or two line answer would help me a lot!!

Thanks!!
