I try to follow Shaun's instructions and everything seems to work fine until I add the Widget module onto the home page, I get the following exceptions (please note that my web application is using HTTP - IIS instead of Cinassi):

Error: Widget is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at YourCompany.Modules.Widget.ViewWidget.lstContent_ItemDataBound(Object sender, DataListItemEventArgs e) in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNNTest\DesktopModules\Widget\ViewWidget.ascx.cs:line 136 at System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataList.OnItemDataBound(DataListItemEventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataList.CreateItem(Int32 itemIndex, ListItemType itemType, Boolean dataBind, Object dataItem) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataList.CreateControlHierarchy(Boolean useDataSource) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataList.OnDataBinding(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataList.DataBind() at YourCompany.Modules.Widget.ViewWidget.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNNTest\DesktopModules\Widget\ViewWidget.ascx.cs:line 115 --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I put a break point in ViewWidgent.ascx.cs and see the colWidgets collection actually has some data (Count = 1), but the exception happens right after the line:

lstContent.DataBind();

Please help. Thanks.

This appears to be a bug since the cause of the problem is due to the lack of any templates in the beginning. Once you enter anything in the template (module Widget's settings) this problem goes away.

The problem goes away, however when you add new entries the template entry still shows up, not the new entry. So what is the solution?  I am just trying to follow the directions to create a custom module and cannot get it to work because of bugs in this program?

Ok this is good,  I found out what the problem is....  If you place the [CONTENT] tag in the template box, the entries will show up.  I also tried using the [CREATEDBYUSERNAME] tag in the template box but it does not work for some reason.

I have successfully worked through the Widget module creation demo (several times) without these errors...
