Hi,

I just developed a small module for my DNN based website, and it'w working perfectly fine in my system,  and one of my friend is also working to tweak a module for me, both of us are working on seperate machines.

Apart from this  i have a Dedicated server, I want this server to become host of my website.

Q. are

1. how to make a system as DNN host, and upload my work on it.

2. How to copy my friends' work at my website.

Thanks and Regards,

Brij

  1. You need to setup your server just like any other webserver.  Setup a dns, expose it to the internet, figure out your hacker security, ensure you have enough bandwidth, etc.  You'll also need to think about SQL Server and get that configured as well.  Once your server is online, just add your DNN files and it works like any other website.  I'm not sure why you would want to do this, though.  There are plently of hosting options out there.  Depending on your needs and budget, you can select a host that handles of that for you.  Just some examples...
    1. FREE - http://www.pureportals.com
    2. $8/mo - http://www.dotnetpark.com
    3. $20/mo - http://www.powerdnn.com
    4. many, many, many more in all price / feature ranges
  2. This one is somewhat related to #1.  I guess your friend could zip up his work and email it to you, but the more efficient way would be to setup an ftp server and have him add his files.  Or, if he could package his work as a PA and upload it into the portal.  Again, all the web hosts out there give you some way of accessing your files, either via Windows or web based ftp.

Depending on what hosting company provided your DED server, will determine what you really need.  We have DED servers with Maximumasp and all you get is the OS just as if you purchased a computer out of the box (which is exactly what we wanted).  If you are just using this to run a DNN website then just follow Professor's post but if you are planning on using this to offer hosting services you will need to so a LOT of configuration, (mailserver, control panel (HELM, C-Panel, PLESK etc.)  If you are not using your DED to offer services, you may be spending too much money and creating problems that may not be necessary.  Ive had DED for over 3yrs and would never go back to a shared environment.
