Professorcw1:

Is there a time when we could chat offliine out of the forum for just a few minutes to get your input on a thing or two.

I have had a developer try to do what we are referring to here but he has hit roadblocks.  I just want to make sure that we are not overlooking your "logic" or "thought process".

Thanks a million in advance!

Professorcw1, you commented earlier that:

It seems like when you take the page out from underneath Host, something happens behind the scenes that says "Hey, Admins should be able to edit me" and it makes the priv adjustment.  I'll keep trying because I'm puzzled by not being able to do something (even if it's not the right approach).  For now, you may be stuck with the Admin 2 method.  That should work, just don't ever put someone in the built-in Admin role.

What if I leave the pages under the Host Menu and just access them by having a live link go to them?

Would this work.......

I've been travelling the last couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to look at this again.  I'll take another look next week.

I did spend some time looking at this and wasn't able to get it to work.  I do have a couple of other ideas, but they aren't very elegant.  I don't think leaving your page as a child of Host will work because one of your requirements was to allow non-host users to view the page.  If the page is under host, no one but host will see the page is there.  I guess you could create another tab somewhere and have it redirect to this real page.  That doesn't seem very clean, though.

I'm still thinking the Admin 2 concept is the cleanest way to do this.  If you do it that way, you could just not ever assign anyone to the built-in Admin role.  This is really the same concept as having a Content Editors role or a Store Admins role.  When I create those, I grant edit privs at the module level, rather than the page level.  Doing this way allows Content Editors to edit module content, but they can't do any page functions or add more modules.  That's really what you're trying to do right?

It is starting to become more and more clear every day that the ADMIN 2 is going to have to be the way that I go.

With that being said, the task at hand then becomes, "making sure that every new page ever added to the portal also has the ADMIN 2" view/edit permissions added to it".

Obviously I would prefer to run something only once (SQL Script, Module Install, etc.....) to a portal and all pages going forward would then have this applied to them.

What do you think is the best way to approach this task?

Once again, thanks for the input. :)

In past was the same problem, when CookDNN created module for one company. Also was checked several ways with DB and stored procedures, but no one helped. At the end of research we try to use JavaScript. It was working for us. We created simple module, which hide Hosts and (or) Admins elements on the page. Client was happy.

May be you can use JavaScript too? What do you think?

P.S. Please look on our Universal List
