Hi Guys

I was hoping some one could help me with a strange problem we are having with DNN and SQL Server Reporting Services. We have a module which uses the Reporting Services Web Control.

What we are experiencing is that the Reporting Services Web Control which is embeded in the module to be clunky and slow in rendering in internet explorer. We have a very good server in terms of performance and have a 100 Mbps connection so the bandwidth and processing are not an issue.

Has any on worked with SQL Server Reporting Services and DNN, can some one please let me know if you have any thoughts how we can make the RS web control load more smoothly. Also we have noticed when we run the reports from http://<servername>/Reports virtual directory which is default RS directory, the control loads smoothly and even displays a rotating green image with the message “Please wait report is being generated” which makes the user feel something is happening, even if we can get this message to display when we run the control in DNN it would make the user feel like yeah something is happening.

Could DNN be the culprit?

Is the control slow in rendering because of the DNN framework?

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated

Kind Regards

I've evaluated these two modules for displaying SQL RS reports and have been satisfied with the response time.

Module Masters SQL Reporting Services (1.2)
ReportXP for SQL Reporting Services 2000/20005

I did notice a significant difference between pulling reports off our development environment vs the production environment (SQL RS servers).  The quality of the Reporting Services server made a huge difference.  DNN didn't seem to care either way, it just rendered what was requested.  If your Reporting Services server is good as you say it is, the problem is most likely in your module.  The issue probably lies in the implementation of the RS web control.

The upcoming 4.4 version of the core Module :: Reports  uses the RS web control. If you can wait you could review its source code. You could also ask Andrew Nurse for some tips.
