I am not a programmer, so I need to solicit the help of others to help me create a new module, one I think DNN will benefit from TREMENDOUSLY!

I would like to either build from scratch or incorporate to an existing email server.  The email server would sit on the back end, doing its thing.  The front end would be a client module in POP3 or IMAP.  Ideally, what I want is to be able to give a user an email address when they register to the site.  Initially, we could make it so that the process is on or off and the admin has the ability to add the module if they want it.  But long term, I see the need to be able to attach this to a particular role, etc.

Anyone interested in helping develop this?

Hi Sebastian!  Yes, I have looked at WebMailPro and it seems like it would be a really nice product.  But 2 things: I can't afford to spend $80 on a module when I am only using this as a hobby site, and 2, it seems a bit overboard for what my needs would be.  If I could see the back end and the administration side of the module, I might be able to start a petition from my users to donate some $$.  But until I know it will be perfect for us, I can't do that.  So in the meantime, I thought about soliciting the help of the DNN Guru's to help develop a free or maybe even core module.  One that is very simple, and integrated.

Thanks for the quick reply!

If anyone is interested, I found a great client that I have worked into my portal.  It is calle SmartWebMail from http://anmar.eu.org/projects/sharpwebmail/ .  It supports IMAP and POP3 and I chose to use IMAP to connect to the server I am running.  To make it integrated, I set up the Client to run as a virtual web page.  Then I used the Text/HTML module to create a custom iframe to display this "module".  It works FANTASTIC!

Next is to try to find an email server that will run from the DNN database so accounts will be seamless.  If I can't find one, then I will try to choose an opensource email server that supports IMAP and has a userbase that I can import from a stored procedure or script from the DNN DB.

So there you go!
