I know that at one time there was some discussion of making the admin parts of DNN more modular - so things could be removed etc. - along those lines I am trying to add an element to the admin menu - I can do that - at least by editing the tabs table its not a problem

The problem is I can do it for one portal but then if I create a new portal  it doesnt create the new tab - now this is the wierd part - the admin menu items are all recreated in the tabs table - this seems a little wasteful - if the tabs all do the same thing wouldnt it make sense to reuse the definition of the admin tabs - like we do with the host tabs -

Is there a reason they arent reused?  I have a thing in place to add me admin tab into the portal if the module is added anywhere in the portal - but this seemed like something that I havent seen discussed before.

I guess this is because of the way dnn technically works. Admin tabs, and modules on it, are just ordinary modules, be it that they are only accesible to Administrators. The modules need some way of knowing what portal they are in, so they can access the settings for that portal. Btw, you cah define what admin tabs should be created in the admin.template file in your host root folder (/portals/_default). In theory you should even be able to define your own admin tabs and modules there....

Is there a way to make changes to the admin tab after a default installation? I need to only have a two of the tabs show for admin, and the rest move to host tab.

Change the ParentID of the Admin Tabs to be under the Host Menu in the Tabs tables.
