Possibly some stupid questions, but if I don't ask I may never know...

Can I use a module that I've developed and implemented in DNN 3.x and ASP1.1 and simply upload it to DNN 4.x without having to convert anything?

Will the module that I created in VS 2003/ASP1.1 simply work with DNN 4.x by simply uploading it or do I actually need to go through a conversion process?

Can I compile my VS 2003 DNN 3.x module to work with ASP 2.0? without having to go through the conversion? If yes, how do I do this?

.Net 2 is backwards compatible, so modules developed in VS 2003 and packaged in the DNN3 way will work in DNN4, you install them in the same way.

VS2003 does not compile for ASP.NET 2.0 you need VS2005 for that and yes, you need to convert your module.

To convert your module you can use the Upgrade wizard for modules or using the WAP compiled module from the Starter Kit, start a new module as a WAP project. No BuildSupport project is needed but you'll need to setup to use MSBuild. Pay special attention at the way files are organized and the contents created for some of them.

Then you can drop your old module there and work your way until no errors are reported. Some files will overlap, so pay attention to the differences, that's all.

Thank you hooligannes 2.0 for your response.

I continue to have nightmares with my conversion from my DNN 3.x module toDNN 4.x ASP2.0. I was initially under the impression that I had to convert, and I'm glad to hear that it is backwards compatiable.

My problems stem from using multiple view pages, which I've seen addressed in a few places, but I haven't found anyone who has answered with a definitive solution, just work arounds. I've modeled my modules around the same methodology the Events module was coded to allow for multiple views using an asp placeholder control.

I'm learning there are problems with localization and I don't even pretend to grasp all the changes that need to be made as of yet. (I'm not getting a global.asax error, which I have yet to figure out.)

At least I know that my module will still run in DNN4.

Thanks for your response.
