Thanks for the link. I followed another blog post that was very similar but I had some problems. It seem to upgrade fine and I followed all the steps, included copying over the connection strings and the validation keys. Now when I try and login it just takes me back to my Home page and acts like I never even logged in. No control pannel or anything. The register/login buttons at the top still appear. I tried creating a new account under a random name and it let me register but still no log in. It knows the password though because if I misstype it there's an error and it wont let me finish the log in process. So I type it in correctly and it takes me back to the Home page without being loggen in. Any clues? I'm using Goddady and upgraded from a working 4.8.0 to 4.8.2. Thanks for any help.

I used to use the upgrade package but decided to start using the install package instead (for this reason amongst others).  It has worked fine for me.

Maybe the core team can officially comment..  is that the only difference between install and upgrade?

ATM there are exactly 2 differences between upgrade and install packages:

  • install contains additionally all current versions of oficially released project modules
  • install contains additionally web.config file (usually as a copy of release.config).
