Hello Bruce, I had already upgraded to 4.9.1 before installing the 5.x version, so I don't know if I will have trouble with the next DNN 4.9.x version.

Thank you, Tom

Hi there,

Can you direct me to or describe what this product does that

http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Friendly_Url_Provider_For_DNN/details/Product_Information

the free version does not do? I think the client will go for just need some reasons.

I also need to know a couple of other things:

  • one client has hundreds of 'old format' urls sitting out there as links to their site on other people's sites, what happens to those? Will they ever in future not work?
  • If i have XmodPro, etc. modules that reference URLs old format, images, etc., will this affect those links/programs?
  • Will this get rid if the issue of search results from Google CSE sometimes returning the Privacy Statement in results?
  • Does this affect performance of the site at all?

thanks!

Will The principal differences between the Url Master and the Friendly Url Provider are this: - Url Master installs via the module installer, friendly url provider needs to be manually configured and installed - Url Master has a configuration settings page, Friendly Url Settings changes must be made to the web.config file directly - Url Master allows for custom Urls for your pages - Url Master allows for custom redirects for your pages - Url Master has a feature which allows you to create customised 'user profile' urls based on a users' display name. This give you a twitter-like user profile page (domain.com/display-name) - Url Master has some extra features like automatic conversion of diacritic to ascii characters To answer your questions directly with regards to the Friendly Url Provider (Url Master module has all Friendly Url Provider features): 1) if the 'old format' urls are DNN urls (ie /default.aspx?tabid=xx or /pagename/tabid/xx/default.aspx) then the module can redirect all of these to the new 'friendly' url. So the old urls will still work, and gradually search engines will update their indexes with the new Urls 2) images and other links are not affected. You can exclude particular pages from having the friendly urls generated. Most modules will continue to work unaffected. 3) Yes, the module consolidates all the duplicate privacy page references into a single /privacy.aspx 4) No, site should maintain the same performance as before, though this needs to be checked when you install.
