I've got to ask -- what is the point of maintaining an Oracle provider for DNN?  It seems to me like a losing battle.  You must always chase updates to the core modules and you pretty much lose the benefit of the entire DNN ecosystem since much of the back end functionality for many modules are stored procedures for SQL Server.  DNN is really not database agnostic.  And the modules you do choose to stay relatively up to date with are nearly always going to be fewer in number and hence lesser functionality for the Portal (unless you have an unlimited budget).  I'm not knocking Oracle or your product (I'm sure it is very good) -- You have obviously found a niche that makes this approach work for you, but it just seems counter-productive.

Sorry for the delayed response. For some reason, I never got notified that you'd posted on this thread....
DNN is database agnostic in the sense that I am able to release modules on the oracle side which mimic exactly the same functionality as the SQL Server side (Text/HTML is a good example of this).
With regards to chasing updates to the core - the Oracle version from day 1 has always aimed to mimic the functionality in the SQL Server version. Yes, we have created additional oracle modules which are not released as part of AcuitiDP, however these are meant to be specific for our clients. This is why the oracle version is always released a couple of days/weeks after the SQL Server version so as to make sure that we're not releasing against a version which has any issues from a "commercial software support aspect".

With regards to why we're maintaining it, I can call out an impressive list (at least in my mind) of companies (both in the private and public sector) that are using the Oracle version and at the end of the day its about providing that additional choice to the end-user. I am a firm believer in the power of the framework itself and thanks to Shaun and the rest of the core team, being database agnostic has been something which they've supported back from the 2x days of DNN which allows ANYONE to basically plug in any other database provider besides SQL Server.  I know other people have tried to raise other providers but at the end of the day have given up because of the complexity invovled in maintaining updates. I have  (knock on wood) not had to deal with this issue much. Yes it is an "effort" with every release but then the flip side is that a) I keep my oracle skills up to date and b) help someone else looking to use DotNetNuke on the Oracle Platform

Sanjay
