From the website:

Editing DotNetNuke skins just got much easier. Meet Yannick's SXE, the editor for skin.xml files.

DotNetNuke has a verry flexible skinning system. Skins consist of a html file with tags (skinobjects) and an xml file describing those skinobjects. Sounds easy enough? but wait there is no editor for those xml files. You could use notepad and you could print the skinners guide. Sounds boring and not productive? It is boring and non productive!!!

Yannick's SXE comes to the rescue. No more malformed xml, SXE takes care of it. No more looking to the skinners guide, SXE list every option in a nice property grid. Guaranteed extra productivity.

It gets better. SXE is cheap, so cheap YOU determine it's price. Just download the software, test it out and come back to pay whatever you want. Use the paypal donate button on the right of this page. As a bonus every donator gets access to the KnowledgeBase/Support forum. Use the contact form to ask for access to the forum.

SXE features:

  • Visual studio 2005 like interface for maximum productivity
  • Auto updated list of supported SkinObjects
  • Built-in documentation for every SkinObject property
  • Yannick's SXE is donation ware

Nice little application.

I just would like to have an option to extend the token list, so I get permanent support for 3rd party SKOs (we use often TemplatePrint, PagePrint, PortalName from DNNJungle, ML extensions from Apollo, House Menu and others as well).

I've been thinking about howto handle that, currently it downloads an xml file from my server on application startup to update it's listof supported SkinObjects. I am going to expend the list of supported objects as soon as I get some docs on the extra skinobjects. Expect this to chang in a later version.

If you were to add an unsupported token MYSKINOBJECT you could  add the properties you need to the propertie grid. So you can definatly edit files with unsupported SkinObject Tokens. It's just without assistance from the application.

Yannick,

thank you for your reply, of course I found the option to add custom properties. But I would like to add support for 3rd party modules, and maybe 3rd party SKO developers would like to add support for their SKOs themselves. How about having separate files for each SKO in a subfolder, that get scanned on app start, this would ease this handling.

One other feature I suggerst to enhance is the usage of default values. If the default would be stored separately, it cannot only be displayed, but your app can also remove unnecessary settings.

As I said before, a nice application!
