This may have already been announced, but I just noticed it:

Visual Studio.Net 2005 SP1 was released on 12/14/06.

You can download it from:

be prepared for a very looooong installation (takes some coffee and cookies with you to kill the time)

Also: if you previously installed the Web Application Projects extension to visual studio, remember to uninstall that first

Long is an understatement.  SP1 broke my work machine, and its taken me 2 days of Googling to fix the various errors so I could uninstall and reinstall .NET 2.0 and VS 2005.

The common thread among the MANY errors I found people have reported seems to be caused by running out of disk space during the install.  When this occurs the install halts and leaves both VS2005 and .NET 2.0 in an unusable state.  Simple freeing up disk space and clicking retry does nothing.  You can't remove .NET 2.0 or VS2005, and they don't work either.  You are hosed.

In my case, I had 1.5 GB free before doing the install, and figured that was enough.  The install started up normally, but died a ways in.  In the end, it seems like you better have 3+ GB free before attempting this according to  some posts I read.  I cannot verify that though.

The fix in my case was to delete the C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies folder, then completely remove .NET 2.0 and VS2005, then reinstall them.

I am not going near SP1 again until I know they have fixed the package.  I have never had a more frustrating experience installing anything - and I am not new to .NET or VS.
