Say my domain name is mydomainname.com and it's running as a parent portal.

Can the store in that domain name use a shared ssl with a url like secure.anotherdomainname.com where secure.anotherdomainname.com is another parent portal on the same server? Both domain names are using the same ip address.

On recent dnn version ssl is integrated in the core. This is the best way to go. 

Up to DNN 4.5.x, only the checkout page can enable ssl - not the catalog
