Hi all,

I'm only a beginner with DNN. I visit DNN site and down it all (version 5.0). After that, I run DotNetNuke_05.00.00_StarterKit.vsi. Next, I create a website with this template in VS2008. At the first time, building and running OK. Step by step is to configure everything from chosing DB, SMTP ....

Next, I go to DNN localhost site and login with admin, host account, everything is OK.

But when I back to VS2008 and build again Website then I get an error as following:

Error 1 Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Store.WebControls.AddressEdit'. DesktopModules/Store/AddressEdit.ascx

Please help me (SOS :) . I want to write a module and want to deploy it on website. How can I do that? Thanks

Hi,

I will try to guide you in your first steps with this wonderfull product (DNN)! :-)

Your problem is related to a unused control in the Store module (AddressEdit.ascx). Moreover, the current Store version (02.01.00) DO NOT work with DNN5. You sould uninstall the Store module (Host > Modules Definitions). There is a beta version (02..01.12) with many corrected bugs working with DNN5.

If you need to work with the Store module, then:

  • Use the last beta with DNN 5
  • Use the current vesion with an older version (04.09.02)

Hi Gilles,

I follow up what you talk and it ran OK. I have to take more time to study about DNN. So, I also post extra many question here. Please let me know when DNN 5.0 has a final release? Can I write a DNN  5.0 module by using C# ASP.NET 3.5? And how to programming to access  and manipulate with Database (SQL server 2005).

Best regards.

Thanks so much

Hi,

Normaly, questions about programming should be post in the "Extend It! forums (here about VS 2005-ASP.NET 2.0 and here about VS 2008-ASP.NET 3.5) , here it's the Store forum. ;-)

DNN 5 like all previous versions is a never ending story, so there is no "final" release. When a new version is available for public download, it's a stable version. In some days (I do not have a fixed date), you could donwload the next DNN 5 version including some minors change and/or corrections about bugs discovered after the current version was released.

Yes, you can write module using ASP.NET 3.5. Because this framework version is the previous one (ASP.NET 2.0) plus some extra new framework pieces. You should buy some new books about DNN5 (do a search at Amazon with the DotNetNuke keyword) to understand basis about DNN and how the write modules. You can find plentry of documentation on this page too. At last, there is many web sites and blogs about DNN over the Internet, please have a look at this one from Michael Washington (a core team member).
