Hi Gilles,

I hope you are doing well.  I'm working on a web store using the 3.0 version, and I've created some product landing pages that have a menu and a catalog module (configured specifically for a brand on the page).  I need to create many copies of this page (and configure for each brand).  When I copy the page and choose to copy the module as well, I'm running into all kinds of issues.  The main one is that it's creating dubs of the parent categories for some reason - I can't find where the module is running it's copy routine so I can maybe edit out the dup issue.  I think the dup issue is causing the other errors I see - datetime exceptions.  Right now, I can only copy the page and say create new module - which works, but I have to then go in and set the templates and all the settings, which I would rather not do.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jay

Hi Jay,

I'm fine and hope you too! :-)

Duplicate categories are generated because you have probably selected the "Copy" option for the Store Catalog and Store Menu modules! If you look in the "Copy Page" section when you copy a page, modules from the original page are listed and you have 3 options (New, Copy and Reference). If you select the "Copy" option, the content from the original module is exported then imported in the new module. This is useful for modules like the Text/HTML having content by module instance, but because your catalog is portal wide you should never select the "Copy" option with the Store module! Moreover, for the Store MiniCart module the "Copy" option is unavailable because this module do not implement IPortable. This is by design of DNN and not related to the Store module.

It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Hi Gilles,

Thanks for the quick reply.   That makes sense..  so what I was trying to do is copy the module settings - so I don't have to set all the template, thumb size, store page, each time I copy the page.  Copying the page and selecting new brings over the module, but I have to manually edit all the settings each time.  It sounds like that  my best option is to copy -> new and update settings.  And selecting Copy module is something that should be avoided.

Thanks,

Jay

Hi Jay,

Yep, that's right!

[Crystal Ball Mode: ON]
I suppose you want to have a "Brands" page in the menu with sub pages like "DotNetNuke", "Microsoft" and so on to allow your visitors to go directly to the corresponding "brand category"?
If your "brand pages" are exactly the same (skins, containers, other modules, ...), you could simply define each page to be a link to the corresponding category! Go to the page settings of a "brand page", expand "Advanced Settings" then "Other Settings", select the "Link Type" URL for the "Link Url" setting then enter the url of your catalog page with the corresponding categoryid param (www.yourdomain.tld/strore/categoryid/yourbrandcategoyid/default.aspx)

That's a good idea for linking from the home page, but in this case, the landing page will be custom - it has it's own store menu and catalog with modified catalog template.

For example,

actual category page  -  http://soledesire.dotnetretail.com/catalog/tabid/110/categoryid/80/default.aspx
custom landing page - http://soledesire.dotnetretail.com/ShopByBrand/Earthies.aspx

You can see that the custom landing page will have to be recreated for each brand.. and that's why I was trying to copy.  It's not too big of a deal to have to manually set the settings for each page since it's only a one time set up basically.

Thanks,

Jay
