Yeah, I do own the site.

I'm currently collating all the changes I've made and features I've added and will post something up in the next week or so.

The main point of this thread though is to warn people who may be considering using the store that I don't think it should be used unless you are:

1) An experienced developer with experience in ASP.Net and what ever database you're using.
2) A person with a fair amount of time to spend on fixing code and adding new features (you will need to build new features to run an ecommerce site via store 1.00.01).
3) Someone with a lot of patience.

On the other hand, the alternatives are few, there aren't any other free modules, and things like catalook are quite expensive and very confusing to use.

I love the DNN framework, but without investing a lot of your own development time (or money if you choose catalook) then I don't think you can use DNN to support an ecommerce site at present.

Hi, I've also just spent several weeks working on the Store module to get it ready for use on a real store .. (using DNN 4.03.04 and store 1.00.01 too)

I considered several options but mainly catalook vs dnn store, both of which I would have had to heavily change to get the online store working the way I want - ended up choosing dnn store because catalook was just too complex.

Sorry I cant give a link to the finished store yet ;) Will be two weeks before signoff and then launch date should be soon after that

Even though I've spent a lot of time, it wasnt too difficult, it was more a case of lots of small things to change.  I've submitted all the bugs that I've found to the store team and also have been carefully recording where I make changes .. so I dont expect to have too many problems upgrading to the next version of the store

So even though there were quite a few bugs, and I had to write a lot of extra functionality, I still wholeheartedly recommend dnn store :)

The point is that it is something that can be used as a base to build upon, whereas if you chose something like catalook then it would be much harder to customize.

And dont forget to contribute your changes :)

Two people are hardly enough of a team to come up with a real thing for FREE!

May be you could invite me, and the other two guys onto a team? I am serious. I've been working on DNN for the past 2 years and ecommerce module is something I've been missing all this time. I mean, I gotta build it for my eCommerce clients anyway, so why not share in effort with other talented, competent developers?

The currently available options one can buy are so overly complicated (and very confusingly labeled) that every one of my clients refused to use it. :) Not to mention mirriads of bugs, slow performance and questionable customer service that some of the vendors provide along with the module.

As far as "expensive" - that is the only thing I disagree. These modules are far from being pricey - just as far as it is from being useful, though. :(

eCommerce module is something that can either take DNN onto a brand new very high level or make it an object of ridicule in programming community.

I am getting pretty desperate for a good store module for DNN.  I built my site using DNN due to the recommendation from a programming friend, however in hindsight I probably shouldnt have (not knocking DNN).  I have no developing skill...I am purely an business person not an IT person so using the DNN core and Store module has proven a mistake as I can't fix any of the problems myself and cannot afford to hire a developer.

I wait patiently and am very excited about the next release.  Does anyone here have a modified version of DNN store with fixes to the main bugs that we can download in the meantime though?

Mate, I've posted this thread that further extends my woes about followign the DNN path and Open Source.
Please everyone have a read and let me know what you think:

It's not a personal attack on teh guy that wrote the addons himself. more over a heads up on how to prevent this in the future to make DNN a more satisfying product.
