One of my clients asked me if there is a way to calculate the shipping fee based on the customer's zip code, much the way the USPS quotes prices.

Does the default DNN store module allow such automation?   There doesn't appear at least from first glance, to be able to do this.   I imagine an interface to a 3rd party would be necessary.   How have others handled this?

I assume that UPS required weight and dimensions so you'd need to add these details to each item in your store, and also work a way of calculating the overall parcel dimensions if more than one item is ordered.

Assuming that UPS have a web service, the process of retrieving the rate would be simple, provided you modify the store to give enough details to fulfil the request information anyway.
